Danny L. McFarland

Danny McFarland, age 70, of Albert City, Iowa died following multiple health issues on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. He left this world surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Albert City. Masks and social distancing are required for all guests in attendance. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements. 

Danny Lee McFarland, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Brown) McFarland, was born on May 7, 1950 in Storm Lake, Iowa. Growing up the youngest of four siblings, Danny was very close to his parents, brothers, and sister as he attended grade school in Odebolt, Iowa and later Storm Lake High School where he graduated in 1968.

On October 23, 1971, Dan was united in marriage to Becky Johnson at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laurens, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children: Tammi, Shane, and Heidi.

Dan worked as a receiving clerk for Hakes/Scrivner/Fleming in Laurens, Iowa from 1975-2000 during which time he made many lifelong friends.

In his free time, Dan was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, gun collecting, travelling with Becky, and gardening. He was particularly famous for his garden tomatoes. Dan treasured his many hunting and fishing trips with friends and family as well as visiting and researching many Civil War sites with his wife.  He often joked that he was born 100 years too late, a fact evidenced by the number of westerns he watched. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Becky McFarland of Albert City, Iowa; children: Tammi McFarland of Ankeny, Iowa; Shane (January Johnson) McFarland of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Heidi (Rachel) McFarland of Ankeny, Iowa; sister, Kay Hummel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren: Sofia Newell, London McFarland, Vienna McFarland; extended family and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dorothy McFarland; parents-in-law, George and Darlene Johnson; brothers, Dennis McFarland and Rick McFarland; and grandson, Gabriel McFarland.
