Charles Roder

October 27, 1931 ~ August 24, 2019 (age 87)


Charles F. Roder, age 87, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa and formerly of Linn Grove, Arnolds Park, Iowa and Branson, Missouri died Saturday, August 24, 2019 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa. 

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. A reception will follow at the American Legion Hall in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Floyd Roder, the son of Floyd and Harriet (Chindlund) Roder, was born on October 27, 1931 in Marathon, Iowa on the family farm.

Growing up, Charles attended grade school and high school in Marathon. He graduated from Marathon High School in 1949.

On February 5, 1952, Charles enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country. He was honorably discharged on January 5, 1954.

After leaving the Army, Charles started a lifetime of farming and was a steward of the land.

On August 28, 1955, Charles was united in marriage to Eloise “Loy” Peterson at the Lutheran Church in Linn Grove. The couple was blessed with four children: Shannon, Shane, Charlie Jr., and Angela.

In his free time, Charles enjoyed going bowling, hunting, fishing, boating, and entertaining at the lake residence. He treasured spending time with his wife; he especially loved dancing with her. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Shannon (Terri) Roder of Marathon, Iowa; Shane Roder (Marti) of Clarinda, Iowa; Charlie (Tracy) Roder of Livermore, Iowa; Angela (Chris) McCleary of Lowell, Arkansas; grandchildren: Shonda (Colby) Vetter, Ryan (Samantha) Roder, Shane Jr. Roder, Skyler (Ashley) Roder, Paden (Sydney) Roder, Christopher (Katie) Roder, Logan Geisinger, Gaige Van Engen, and Trinity Van Engen; great-grandchildren: Adelia and Oaklei Vetter; Tenley and baby Roder; Emmett, Jamison, and Brooks Roder; Henry Roder; and extended family and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise “Loy” Roder; brother, Richard Roder; and his parents, Floyd and Harriet Roder.

Charles’ body was donated to the University of Iowa Anatomical Deeded Body Program for medical research.
