Caroline Janzen, age 91, of Rembrandt, Iowa, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Caroline Rose Janzen was born November 6, 1914 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to John and Johanna (Grochowski) Janzen. She was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Lawrence’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee and later confirmed in the same parish church. Caroline spent her early years living with her family in Milwaukee. She attended St. Lawrence grade school there before graduating from West Division High School in 1932.

Caroline was proud of her service with the auxiliary police of the Milwaukee County Council of Defense during 1943.

Caroline worked as an assembler at Cutler-Hammer, Inc. and at PerFex Corporation in Milwaukee until her retirement on October 15, 1976. Caroline moved to Port Isabel, Texas that same year. She assisted with housing authorization at Amigos Del Valle Senior Center in Port Isabel from 1983 – 1990. In her later years, she moved to Rembrandt.

Caroline enjoyed bowling and was an avid bird watcher. She was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and American Legion Auxiliary Post 498. A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Caroline was most recently a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Nancy M. Janzen of Rembrandt; brother John T. Janzen of Pittsville, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Michelle M. Erblich-Connors and husband Michael P. Connors of Rembrandt; niece Maris Edwards of Greendale, Wisconsin; niece Joann Janzen of Rudyard, Michigan; nephew Drew Janzen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Louis Janzen of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; niece Karen Jaecks of Nekoosa, Wisconsin; extended family and friends.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, John and Johanna Janzen; and three brothers: Raymond Janzen, Bernard Janzen and Raphael Janzen.
