Carol Reinders Obituary

Carol Dee Reinders, age 67, of Storm Lake, Iowa died November 21, 2021 in Omaha, Nebraska. 

Funeral services will take place Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the CHURCH. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. 

Carol Dee Higgins was born February 15, 1954 in Creston, Iowa the daughter of Stanley and Joyce (Westenburg) Higgins. Growing up, she attended school in Griswold where she graduated from Griswold High School in 1972.

Following high school graduation, Carol attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa for two years where she received an associate degree in 1974.

Carol worked at Powell School for special need kids near Red Oak, Iowa for two years. She met and married Harry Jensen. Together, they were blessed with two children, Conan and Crystal. They lived in Griswold where Carol worked for Griswold School District driving school bus. She also worked as an Instructional Assistant for Atlantic School District at Elliot Elementary in Elliot, Iowa for thirteen years. Carol and Harry later divorced in 1985.

In 1989, Carol enrolled at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1992.

On November 27, 1993, Carol was united in marriage to Tim Reinders in Silver City, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with one daughter, Mariah.   While living in Storm Lake, Carol worked for Faith Hope and Charity which is now Hope Haven. In 1993, she went to work for the Storm Lake School District as a Special Education Elementary Teacher until she retired in 2015.

Every year, Carol loved cooking Thanksgiving dinner for friends and family. She enjoyed taking trips to Okoboji, Spencer Fair and Ponca State Park with her family. She had a large collection of Willow tree angel figurines and other items. Carol’s life work was working with special needs kids. Memorials will be used for final costs and fulfill Carol’s wishes.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Tim Reinders of Storm Lake, Iowa; daughter, Mariah Reinders (significant other, Jordan Jones) of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Nicholas and Nathan Juniper; Madeline Reinders; sisters: Linda (Dennis) Westover of Emerson, Iowa; Lori Dukes (significant other, Gary Kinser) of Griswold, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Mark (Susie) Reinders of Davenport, Iowa; Barry (Sue) Reinders of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Charlotte Nusser of Cassville, Missouri; Donna Prestor of Davenport, Iowa; Mary Roth of Davenport, Iowa; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her son, Conan Jensen; daughter, Crystal Jensen; parents: Stanley and Joyce Higgins; and her sister, Lisa (Cindy) Sharp.
