Bruce "Stretch" Nehring

Bruce "Stretch" Nehring, age 79, of Albert City, Iowa died July 1, 2021 in Des Moines, Iowa. 

Funeral services will take place Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Bruce “Stretch” Nehring was born to Arvie and Eldona (Seivers) Nehring on December 22nd, 1941, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where he was baptized and confirmed. Bruce was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City.

Bruce attended country school until his family moved into Albert City, Iowa. He graduated in 1961 from Albert City – Truesdale. He was an active member in basketball and a manager for the football team.

On June 4, 1961, Bruce and his sister Beverly were cruising around Sioux Rapids when a little gal caught his eye, the love of his life, Camelia Johnson.

On January 1, 1967, Bruce and Camelia united in holy matrimony and started their family. Together, they were blessed with three children: Jay, Timothy and Pamela.  

Bruce lived in the Albert City area his entire life. He worked at the lumber yard and elevator for 44 years. In those 44 years, he built various buildings and refurbished many surrounding elevators. Bruce retired in June of 2005. He also served his community for 41 years with the Albert City Fire Department. Bruce enjoyed going to water fights and fire conventions where he competed in and won many contests. He grew strong friendships in all that he did. Bruce loved serving his community in a time of need. He retired in 1999.

Bruce loved to go camping in the summers with his wife, Camelia. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, as they were the true apple of his eyes.

Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life of 54½ years, Camelia; son, Tim (Candace) Nehring of Humboldt, Iowa; daughter, Pamela (Todd) Schoening of Bondurant, Iowa; and daughter-in-law, Karen Nehring of Early, Iowa; grandchildren: Liberty (James) Lenhart, Alyssa and Morgan Nehring, Gregory Bruce and Conrad Schoening; and great grandson Lenhart due in early August; aunt, Doris Sievers of Madrid, Iowa; along with a host of extended family and friends.

Those to welcome him with open arms in the greatest Kingdom are his son, Jay Nehring; parents, Arvie and Eldona Nehring; sister, Beverly Nehring; father and mother–in–law, Conrad and Cordelia Johnson; brother-in-law, Jerry Johnson; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
