Brent G. VanderWal, age 47, of Storm Lake, Iowa died March 11, 2016 at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta, Iowa. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 5-8:00 p.m. at Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta. The Sliefert Funeral Home in

Brent Giles VanderWal, the son of Raymond and Marlys (Sterud) VanderWal was born at Brookings, South Dakota, on September 24, 1968. He was baptized on October 27, 1968, at the First Reformed Church of Volga, South Dakota. Brent lived in the Volga community during his youth and attended the Sioux Valley Schools where he graduated from high school in 1987. He continued his education at South Dakota State University where he graduated in 1991 with an associate degree in agriculture.

On March 13, 1993, Brent was united in marriage to Christine Sue Mauser at the Schaller United Methodist Church in Schaller. Brent and Chris were blessed with two children, Dalton and Tessa, and later they received an additional blessing of welcoming Ruby and Jax into their family. Their married lifetime has been spent on their farmstead south of Storm Lake. Since the age of 16, Brent has been involved with the trucking business. He also operated a windshield repair business.

Brent was a member of Summit Evangelical Free Church of Alta. Family has been one of Brent’s passions and he loved attending the Labor Day Family Camp at Hidden Acres. He had two memorable trips to Belize, taking his two oldest children on the second trip. Other enjoyments of Brent’s included running, Nascar, various sports activities and working with cattle.

Brent’s life and testimony will be loved and cherished by his family which include his wife: Chris of Storm Lake, Iowa; his four children: Dalton, Tessa, Ruby, and Jax all at home; parents, Ray and Marlys VanderWal of Volga, South Dakota; grandmother, Myrtle Sterud of Volga, South Dakota; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Denny and LaRae Mauser of Early, Iowa; grandmother-in-law, Leila Grohe of Storm Lake, Iowa; two brothers: Brad (Sara) VanderWal and their children: Shad, Cade, Marika, and Seth; Phil (Tara) VanderWal and their children: Kashas, Mercedees, Reihdir and Porshia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tonia (Corey) McCoid and their children: Grayson, Carrigan, Landry, Leila, and Everly; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Troy (Kathy) Mauser and their children: Lauryn and Brayden; extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Martin Sterud; grandparents, William and Tessie VanderWal; and uncles: Wilmar VanderWal and Merlin Sterud.
