Bonnie J Falkena

Bonnie J Falkena, age 82, of Albert City, Iowa died on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, following a car accident. 

Funeral Services will take place Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Marathon, Iowa. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements. 

Bonnie Jean Uthe, the daughter of Harold and Roberta (Marple) Uthe was born on August 26, 1939 at Fairfield, Iowa. She lived her youth in various towns in Iowa and graduated from Sheldon High School.

Bonnie was united in marriage to Abe J. Falkena on February 17, 1960 at Sibley, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children: Pamela, Jeffrey, Kathryn, and Debra. Following their marriage, Bonnie and Abe resided at Inwood, Iowa for one year and then moved to Ireton, Iowa where they were engaged in farming for 12 years. In 1972, the Falkenas came to make their home near Marathon, Iowa, where Bonnie was a homemaker and cook at Pleasant View nursing home. They moved into the town of Albert City in 1996.

Bonnie was a member of the Marathon United Methodist Church where she participated in Circle groups and a member of the Lions Club. Special interests of Bonnie’s included crocheting, sewing, cross-stitching, reading and baking. She was known for her angel food cakes and cinnamon rolls. Each of her children and grandchildren received a crocheted afghan from her and her great-grandchildren each received a crocheted baby afghan. Family was important to Bonnie and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her life will always be honored and cherished by her family, which includes her children: Pam (Gary) DeWall of Scranton, Iowa; Jeff (Deb) Falkena of  Albert City, Iowa; Kathy (Dan) Josephson of Albert City, Iowa; Deb (Steve) Russell of Cambridge, Iowa; her grandchildren: Ryan (Jasmine) Murphy, Chris (Angie) Murphy; Keri (Chris) Taylor; Amy (Jason) Sawvell; Matt (Danielle) Falkena, Brian (Megan) Josephson; Becky (Reed) Josephson; Kayla (Samanda) Nunnery; Nathan Russell; Anna (Austin) Russell; Amanda Russell; 14 great-grandchildren; sister: Shari Anderson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and other extended family and friends.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Abe; her parents: Harold and Roberta Uthe; and nephew: Douglas.
