Betty Matthews

Betty Matthews, age 88, of Milford, Iowa formerly of Terril and Sioux Rapids died on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Milford Care Center in Milford, Iowa.

Private family funeral services will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.at the Sliefert Funeral in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Private family visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Lou Holm, the daughter of Louis and Edna (Klutz) Holm was born at Sioux Rapids, Iowa, on January 4, 1930.  She lived her youth and received her education in Sioux Rapids, graduating with the Sioux Rapids High School Class of 1947.  She accepted Christ, was baptized and received the Holy Spirit at the age of 16.   

On December 30,1949, Betty was united in marriage to Darrell Matthews and the couple was blessed with three sons: Michael, Patrick and Bret.  Following their marriage, Darrell and Betty farmed near Sioux Rapids before moving to their farm at Terril, Iowa in 1961.  In addition to being a homemaker, wife, and mother, she worked at the Sears store in Estherville, Iowa for many years.  Special interests of Betty’s included flowers, gardening and cooking. She has also been a member of the Buena Vista County Order of the Eastern Star since the 1950’s. Betty will be remembered as a woman with a very personal and strong faith.

Betty’s life is honored and cherished by her family which include her two sons: Patrick of Terril, Iowa and Bret (Sharon) of Spencer, Iowa, one grandson, Levi; two great grandsons: Brayden and Liam, nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Darrell, on October 28,1985, her son: Michael, one sister: Della and one brother: Eldon.
