Bernadine Binder Obituary

Ann Binder peacefully went home to be with the Lord on November 28, 2020.

There will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Ann was born to Robert A. and Helen K. (Klanderud) Schroeder in Woodbury County, IA growing up on a farm near Newell, IA. Ann was baptized on March 15, 1931 and attended Newell Public Schools through the 8th grade. In 1942 the family moved to a farm just outside of Truesdale where Ann attended high school graduating in 1946 as the only girl in a class of five. While officially named Bernadine, she preferred to go with her middle name. Ann had a younger sister and an older brother. While living near Truesdale the family were members of the Truesdale United Methodist Church.

On May 28, 1948 Ann graduated from Buena Vista College with a Teacher Training Certificate. She taught for years at the Fairview country school north of Alta while raising a family. On June 2, 1948 Ann married Harold B. Binder to which three children were born. Sons Michael H. and Terry L were born in 1949 and 1951 respectfully. A daughter, Jean A. was born in 1956.

Ann lived on a farm northwest of Storm Lake from 1954 through 1990 raising livestock and crops on the family farm. A gentle and quiet soul with a diligent work ethic, Ann taught through living by example. She treasured her gardens, huge strawberry patches, reading, teaching, her home and her family.

During 2019, Ann’s health deteriorated to the point that she had to leave the home she occupied for 65 years. In her latter days she moved in with her daughter, Jean and her husband Steve Mohr on an acreage near Fonda. IA.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Robert “Mac” Schroeder, and a sister, Connie Rohlk. Survivors include two sons, Michael B. of Bristol, SD; Terry L. (Jackie) of Waco, TX, and Jean Mohr (Steve) of Fonda, IA.
