Audrey Smith, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at Buena Vista Manor Care Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 24, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, with Father John Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Scripture Service will be held at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. that same evening.

Audrey Peterson was born on August 26, 1919 in Rembrandt, Iowa to Oscar and Mildred (Hanson) Peterson. She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa and later confirmed in that same parish. She remained a faithful member of her church until the time of her death. Audrey grew up in the Rembrandt community, attending school there and graduating from Rembrandt High School in 1936.

On June 3, 1940 in Sioux City Iowa, she was united in marriage to Raymond E. Smith. They were blessed with three sons: Larry, Terry and Tim; and with two daughters: Barbara and Sandra.

Audrey was a loving wife and devoted mother who made a warm and comfortable home for her family. She enjoyed playing Bingo, Dinner Daters events and Happy Hour Club. She especially liked to bake her “Friday afternoon” cinnamon rolls to share with her family and friends. Her family was everything to her and she treasured the time she spent with them.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Larry (Margene) Smith of Alcester, South Dakota; Terry (Sandy) Smith of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Tim (Anne) Smith of Amsterdam, New York; daughters: Barbara (Ron) Wagner of Storm Lake and Sandra (John) Zeman of Sac City, Iowa; grandchildren: Brian (Julie) Wagner, Jim (Kristin) Wagner, Jeff (Jolene) Smith; Paul (Jennie) Smith, Mark (fiancee Amber) Smith, Julie (Jeff) Strong, Jill Zeman, Austin and Joshua Smith, Jason Gardinier, Kelly Gardinier, Jessie Sorensen, and Amber (Al) Peterson. She is further survived by great-grandchildren Madeline and Joseph Wagner, Benjamin Wagner, Ty and Jacob Smith, Mullin and Annika Smith, Kaitlyn and Ryan Strong, and Zeak Sorensen; one sister, Joan Sassman of Alta, Iowa; extended family and many friends.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Raymond on May 8, 1978, an infant son, her parents, three sisters and one brother.
