Arne E. Axelson, age 80, of Alta, Iowa died on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake with full military honors by the Alta VFW. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the CHURCH with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with social distancing encouraged and masks optional. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Arne Edwin Axelson, the son of Axel and Bertha (Benson) Axelson, was born on October 6, 1939 in Alta, Iowa.
Growing up, Arne attended grade school and high school in Alta. He graduated from Alta High School in 1958.
Upon graduating, he started working for Quaker Oats until he was drafted into the United States Army. Following his basic training, he returned home briefly to marry his sweetheart, Gleva Sadler. The couple was united in marriage on July 19, 1962 at the Alta Methodist Church. The couple was blessed with two children, Nancy and Alan.
During his time of service, Arne served in Korea. He was honorably discharged on February 24, 1964.
Once being discharged from the Army; Arne then went to work at the Cargill elevator as a feed truck driver. He drove truck locally for his whole working career.
In his free time, Arne enjoyed cooking, gardening, and woodworking projects. He was known as a gift giver whether it was his canned jellies and jams, baked goods, or wooden toys.
Arne was a member of Summit Evangelical Church as well as the church’s Journey 1:10 group. Arne was active in his community by volunteering on the Alta Fire Department for 41 years. He was also a member of a local coffee group where he enjoyed visiting with everyone. He never knew a stranger.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Nancy (Rick) Kisling of Martensdale, Iowa and Alan (Michelle) of Rigby, Idaho; Kyle (Tori) Kisling, Caleb Kisling, Sarah Kisling, Joel Kisling, Baylee Axelson, Kieffer Axelson, Brandon Pedersen, Brock (Yvonne) Pedersen; great-grandchildren: Everleigh, Imogen, Hazel, Pyper; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Axelson and Barbara Sadler; “adopted granddaughter”, Katie (Chris) Howard extended family and friends.
Arne was preceded in death by his wife, Gleva Axelson; parents, Axel and Bertha Axelson; parents-in-law, Fred and Agnes Sadler; brother, Roy Axelson; brothers-in-law, Gayland (Mary) and Gordon Sadler.
