Arlin W. Specketer

Arlin W. Specketer, age 82, of Lakewood, Colorado and formerly of the Storm Lake area, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, with Reverend Jerry Raether of Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Iowa officiating. Inurnment will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. There will be no visitation. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Arlin William Specketer, the youngest child of William and Mary (Miller) Specketer, was born May 19, 1922 near Alta, Iowa. He was brought to faith through baptism at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Alta, where he was also confirmed. He received his formal education in parochial and public school at Alta.

On April 16, 1944, he was united in marriage to Eunice Sievers at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Storm Lake. Their union was blessed with three sons: Gary, Bruce and Mark. Arlin and his wife were also foster parents to several children during their early years of married life.

Arlin served his Lord and church in various ways, having been a Sunday School and Junior Bible Class teacher for many years. He and his wife were also youth counselors at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa, where Arlin also held such offices as Elder, Trustee and District Representative.

For the first 20 years of his marriage, Arlin farmed near Newell. Due to his declining health, he moved to town and was employed at various jobs before he became a machinist. Prior to moving to Lakewood, Colorado, Arlin and Eunice resided in Humboldt, Iowa.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Gary and wife Brenda of Blaine, Minnesota; Bruce of Wagner, South Dakota; and Mark and wife Janie of Evergreen Colorado; five grandchildren: Angie Specketer of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Paul and wife Raquel Specketer of Shakopee, Minnesota; Brandon Specketer of New York City, New York; Kristen Specketer of Norman, Oklahoma; and Cody Specketer of Washington, DC; two great-grandchildren: Amanda and Andrew Bialon of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; a sister, Laverne Garberding of Albert City, Iowa; as well as a number of relatives and a host of friends.

Arlin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eunice; and his brother, Lester.
