Myrtis Marie Nordine, the daughter of Floyd and Marie (Anderson) Nordine, was born in Albert City, Iowa, on September 1, 1934, on the farm home of Grandpa and Grandma Anderson.  Myrtis grew up on a farm near Albert City and was a graduate of the Albert City High School. She was confirmed at the Albert City Evangelical Free Church.  Following graduation, Myrtis continued to work at the Buse Brother’s Food Store in Albert City, as she had throughout her high school days.

On January 7, 1954, Myrtis was united in marriage to Gene Allen of Albert City, following his graduation from Iowa State University.  Their marriage of 62 years was blessed with three sons: Gary, Bruce and Michael. The first two years of their marriage were spent in Roswell, New Mexico where Gene served his country in the Air Force for two years of active duty.

Gene and Myrtis returned to Albert City in April of 1956 and together they spent 50 years in farming and raising their family.  Myrtis spent most of those years as a “stay at home” mom, homemaker and farm helper to Gene.

Myrtis was a lifetime member of the Albert City Evangelical Free Church and cherished the fellowship of her church family. For all but the two years she spent in New Mexico, it was her joy to be able to use God’s gifts given to her in serving as a choir pianist and church organist for many years. Myrtis enjoyed time spent in the F.C.W.M. and serving on its board and she also felt a special bond with the church youth. Other favorite pastimes were knitting, crocheting, and gardening.

Myrtis enjoyed many years of friendship with neighbors and friends being a member of the Happy Hour Club, the Thursday Apron Club and participating in the prayer shawl ministry shared by women of the three churches in Albert City.

Myrtis will be remembered as a woman who loved and honored the family, both her immediate and extended family.  She also took a sincere interest in the families within her church and community and was always interested in what was happening within those families.  She will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared her life are her family which include her three sons: Gary (Diane) Allen of Storm Lake, Iowa; Bruce (Connie) Allen of West Des Moines, Iowa; Mike Allen and Cindy Falk of Champlin, Minnesota; grandchildren: Kyle Allen (fiancée, Courtney Stubblefield) of Westminster, Colorado; Kelli (Chris) Beedle of Soldier, Iowa; Erica Allen of Rochester, Minnesota; Rob Allen of Ankeny, Iowa; Katie Allen of West Des Moines, Iowa; Chris Allen and Marie Campion of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Emily Allen of Seattle, Washington; three great grandchildren: Morgan, Aaron and Kathryn Beedle of Soldier, Iowa; three siblings: Everett (Sandra) Nordine of Rapid City, South Dakota; Millicent (Don) Fredrickson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Leland (Pam) Nordine of Centennial, Colorado; other extended family and many lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gene on September 17, 2016; brother, Burnett Nordine; and her in-laws, Ray and Amelia Allen.
