Melvin J. Aronson

Melvin J. Aronson, age 92, of Albert City, Iowa passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin was born March 23, 1926 on a farm in rural Albert City, the son of Andrew and Elsa (Blomberg) Aronson.

He attended school in Albert City where he graduated from Albert City High School in 1944.

Melvin was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City, Iowa where he served as a Sunday School teacher, was on the Church Board and sang in the church choir.

Melvin enlisted in the United States Army in February 1946 until he was honorably discharged in March 1947.

Melvin was united in marriage to Mavis Swenson on her family farm on June 10, 1948. Together, they were blessed with four children: Melody, Mark, Miriam, and Matthew.

Melvin farmed and worked in the Albert City Post Office.  He was involved with the Albert City Thresherman organization. He also spent time woodworking, gardening and mowing, and fixing items on the farm.  He enjoyed singing and takng part in musicals with Mavis. Family was very important to Melvin and he attended as many family activities as possible. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mavis of Albert City, Iowa; children: Melody Baker of Sac City, Iowa; Miriam (Greg) Bjornstad of Dubuque, Iowa; and Matthew Aronson of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren: Marissa (Mike) Crimmins of Clare, Iowa; Mark (Stefanie) Snyder of Kansas City, Missouri; Bjorn Bjornstad of Portland, Oregon; great-grandchildren: Avery and Isabelle Snyder; Alexis and Aden Bjornstad; Matthew, Mark and Mia Crimmins; sister-in-law, Betty Aronson of Seattle, Washington; brother-in-law, Don (Sandra) Swenson of Mount Vernon, Iowa; extended family and friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Elsa Aronson; son, Mark Aronson; son-in-law, Doug Baker; grandsons: Benjamin and Hans Bjornstad; brothers and sisters: Oliver Aronson, Viola Meyer, Lillian Schultz, Sylvia Schultz, Olivia Cole, Conrad Aronson, Robert Aronson, and Martin Aronson.
