Mark Anderson

Mark Anderson, age 65, of Marathon, Iowa died Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 13, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements. 

Mark Leonard Anderson, the son of Elmer and Bernice (Chickering) Anderson was born at Storm Lake, Iowa, on January 1, 1953.  He lived his youth in the Marathon community and received his education there graduating from the Marathon High School.

On January 25, 1975, Mark was united in marriage to Jean Coffin at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Royal, Iowa.  Mark worked with his brother, Dennis Anderson, at Anderson Brothers Speed Equipment and had also been employed at Spencer Foods in Spencer, Iowa.  In August of 1984 Mark had a motorcycle accident resulting in a severe brain injury.  Prior to that, his family and friends remember him as a friendly, active and vibrant young man.  Mark had many varied interests which included playing Santa Claus at Christmas time, drag racing, working on cars and ice fishing. 

Mark’s life and memories are cherished by his family which include his former wife: Jean, of Spencer, Iowa, his two brothers: Ray and Marjorie Anderson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa and Dennis Anderson of Marathon, Iowa, his three sisters: Sonna and Merlyn Winther of Spencer, Iowa, Eloise Cutler of Palm Desert, California and Janice Vargas of Ontario, California, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
