June Elsie Johnson, the daughter of Rubert and Judith (Swanson) Johnson was born in Odebolt, Iowa, on February 14, 1926. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. June resided in the Albert City community all of her life and received her education there, graduating from the Albert City High School.

June and Steven lived 1½ miles apart before they were united in marriage on June 12, 1945. This union was blessed with three children: Maureen, Marikay, and Steven Lynn. Since Steven was in the service, he did not get much leave time to come home so he proposed to June over the country line. She had one week to prepare for their wedding.  Wedding invitations were typed at home and there was a shortage of wedding dresses so she had to take what was on hand at the Boston Store in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They didn’t have a car when they were married so June’s aunt and uncle took them to the Bradford Hotel in Storm Lake for the wedding night. Steven’s brother came the next morning to get them. Since Steven only had a week at home, they didn’t have a honeymoon until 30 years later.

They bought the grocery store in Albert City in 1961, and June worked in the local school lunch room as a cook for 27 ½ years. After Steven passed away in 1991, June went to work at the Peasant View Home for 10 years. After retiring, she volunteered at the Pleasant View Home until July of 2017.

June was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church where she had several responsibilities including serving on the church board, Covenant Women, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and being the leader of the Trailblazers group. Recently, June was a member of the Red Hat group and the Loops of Love group.

God gave her many talents during her lifetime including baking many wedding and birthday cakes, baking rye bread, quilting and crocheting. She made all the beautiful wall hangings at the nursing home for all of the residents to enjoy and she faithfully rotated them every month.  June loved to travel and visited the Holy Land, 7 countries in Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and many places throughout the United States.  Recently her failing health made it impossible for her to continue doing the things she loved to do such as sewing, making quilts, wall hangings and reading. Her greatest joy in life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

June’s life is cherished and honored by her family which include her children: Maureen (Steven) Schuknecht of Albert City, Iowa; Lynn (Lori) Lofquist of Fulton, Illinois; grandchildren: Michael (Carrie) Clausen of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Christopher (Leah) Clausen of Waukee, Iowa; Lucas (Jane) Clausen of Adel, Iowa; and Alec Lofquist of Ames, Iowa;  great grandchildren: Hayden, Fletcher, Olivia,  Ronan, and Logan; brother, Leonard Johnson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sister, Mavis Wendt of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; brother-in-law, Loren Lofquist of Colorado; nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 46 years, Steven; and daughter, Marikay.
