Harlan Kent Genson, the son of Henry and Anna (Haroldson) Genson  was born on September 9, 1934, on his family’s farm.  He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove.  Harlan attended all 13 years of his education at the Linn Grove School where he graduated with the Class of 1952.  While in school, he played football, basketball, baseball and sang in the mixed chorus.  Following graduation, he began farming on the “home place” south of Linn Grove.

Harlan was united in marriage to Judy Pennington on October 19, 1952, at Jackson, Minnesota and this couple was blessed with three children: Stuart, Jeff and Ann.  Harlan was employed at Wilson’s in Cherokee for some years and later began working at the Linn Grove Hatchery until he was 78 years old.  On their 25th wedding anniversary, Harlan and Judy enjoyed a trip to Hawaii and ten years later they returned to Hawaii where they visited four islands.  They belong to a couple’s card club for many years.  Harlan was a very private man who enjoyed caring for roses.

Harlan’s life is honored and cherished by his family which include his wife: Judy of Linn Grove, Iowa, his children: Stuart (Kayla) Genson of Linn Grove, Iowa, Jeff (Susan) Genson of Powder Springs, Georgia, and Ann (Dale) Rattray of Adel, Iowa, his grandchildren: Rochelle Lester, Lindsey Bailey, Brooke Rattray, Mike Genson, and Dan Genson, 6 great grandchildren, other extended family and many friends.
