Harold Dean Sundblad, the son of Walter and June (Walstead) Sundblad was born at Longview, Washington, on February 11, 1930.  He received his education in Albert City where he graduated with the Class of 1947.

On March 25, 1950, Dean was united in marriage to Vivian Bloom at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City and this couple was blessed with three children: Thomas, Sally, and Philip. In the 1950’s, Dean spent 3 ½ years working for a religious film company, Gospel Films, in Muskegon, Michigan. The majority of his lifetime was spent farming near Albert City. He thoroughly enjoyed driving big machinery and as recently as last fall, he ran the combine for the harvest.

Dean accepted the Lord as his personal Savior in 1948 and after making that decision, he spent his lifetime honoring and serving the Lord.  Dean was an active and committed member of the Albert City Evangelical Free Church where he has served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Trustee and Chairman of the church. He was always faithful in church and helped wherever needed. Dean and Vivian were youth sponsors for many years.  He also enjoyed singing and sang in the church choir and he and Vivian sang duets for many funerals. Dean enjoyed traveling and they made many trips to Minnesota to go fishing with their nephew and that was one of their plans for this coming summer. The Sundblad’s spent the last 12 winters in south Texas at Bibleville, a Christian Conference Center. The Threshermen’s also played a significant role in Dean’s life and during the Threshing Show you could find Dean making brooms. Dean was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Lion’s Club, was a Fairfield Township Trustee and served as sexton of the Fairfield Township Cemetery.

Dean’s life and testimony will always be honored and cherished by his family which include his wife of 66 years, Vivian, of Albert City, Iowa, his children: Tom (Mary) Sundblad of Iowa City, Iowa, Sally (Steve) McPherson of Plano, Texas, and Phil (Brenda) Sundblad of Albert City, Iowa, his grandchildren: Nate (Sara) Sundblad and Mindy (Greg) Lybeck, all of Iowa City, Iowa, Ben (Taryn) McPherson of Dallas, Texas, Dawson (Raychelle) McPherson of Richardson, Texas, Luke Sundblad and Craig Sundblad, both of Albert City, Iowa, great grandchildren: Chloe, Isaac, McKinzie, and Hudson Lybeck, Conley, Shay and Collins Sundblad, and Ivy McPherson, his sister: Kay (Dale) Mattson of Orcas Island, Washington, his sister-in-law: Florence Carlson, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Clarence (Ardie) Bloom, many cousins, other extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and June Sundblad.

Dean will be remembered as a passionate man who loved the Lord, his family, farming, food, and he believed in the old adage- “there is a place for everything and everything in its place”.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  Blessed be the life and memory of H. Dean Sundblad.
