Floyd Myer, age 94, of Marathon, Iowa died Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of arrangements.

Floyd Myer, the son of George Herbert and Margaret (Heilman) Myer, was born in Wallace Township, Illinois on October 13, 1922. He lived his youth in Wallace Township and was home schooled by his parents.  At the age of 21, Floyd made the life-changing decision to give his heart and life to Jesus, and felt honored to serve as a counselor at the Raccoon River Bible Camp near Scranton, Iowa.

On May 3, 1950, Floyd was united in marriage to Ruth E. Pischel at the Pleasant Ridge Friends Church near Glidden and this marriage was blessed with three daughters: Ruth Evelyn (Evie), Esther Joyce, and Ellen Marie.  Following their marriage, Floyd and Ruth farmed near Emmetsburg, Iowa for two years before moving to Utica, Illinois where they were engaged in farming for eight years.  In January of 1960, they moved to the Myer family farm near Marathon, but from 1958 until 1960, Floyd farmed that ground traveling back and forth between Illinois and Iowa.  One of the most treasured and shared memories is of Floyd driving his John Deere self-propelled combine from Illinois to Iowa.  Floyd resided on that farm until death of his wife, Ruth, in 2011, at which time he moved to the Country Side Living in Albert City.  Even though he lived in Albert City, Floyd still made daily trips to the farm which was still a very important part of his life.

Floyd’s faith was an integral part of his life.  He and his family worshiped at the Marathon Evangelical Free Church, where he served as chairman of the church board, trustee and Sunday School Teacher, until it closed. They then attended the Albert City Evangelical Free Church.  Floyd and Ruth then became active members of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City where he served in many capacities.  Floyd was also actively involved with the Twin Lakes Bible Camp near Manson, Iowa, overseeing many special projects.  From its inception, Floyd enjoyed being a part of the Albert City Thresherman’s.  For many years he mowed the grounds and also drove the gas tractor for their annual celebration.

Floyd was very gifted as a “fix-it” man and “jack of all trades”.  He enjoyed attending auctions, fishing, hunting and teaching his grand children how to clean their game. Floyd loved traveling with Ruth, especially their trips to Alaska and Texas and wherever his children lived. He loved his family very much and cherished the time and memories he could create and share with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Floyd’s mind worked more quickly than he could relate his thought to those he was visiting with.  Floyd will be remembered as a man who had the gift of witnessing and sharing his faith in Christ to those he came in contact with.

Floyd’s life will always be honored and cherished by his family which include his daughters: Evelyn (Evie) and Greg White of Jefferson City, Missouri; Esther and Dan Mullen of Fonda, Iowa; and Ellen and Roger Buehler of Odebolt, Iowa; grandchildren: Jorgen (Amanda),  Bjorn (Britney), Adam, Bradley (Simmie), Abby (Jordan), Barry, Josiah, and John; two brothers: Maynard of Marseilles, Illinois and Dale of Ottawa, Illinois; two sisters: Mildred (Millie) King   and Mae Thompson, both of Florida; other extended family and many lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth, on August 1, 2011; five brothers, including his twin brother, Lloyd; and one sister.
