Darlene Gillman, age 87, of Cherokee, Iowa formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at the Cherokee Specialty Care in Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Darlene Rose Schossow, the daughter of Carl and Mary Schossow, was born at Fonda, Iowa, on July 29, 1931. She attended the Varina Consolidated School and was a graduate of the Class of 1950. Following graduation, she worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1951 to 1953.
Darlene was united in marriage to Robert Gillman on April 20, 1953, and to this union three children were born: Ron, Lila and Lonnie. During her lifetime, Darlene had worked at the Methodist Manor for 30 years, retiring in 1998. Robert died in 1982. For the past two years, Darlene at resided at the Cherokee Specialty Care in Cherokee.
Darlene was affiliated with the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. Special interests of Darlene’s included reading and collecting all types of figurines, including eagles and skunks.
Darlene’s life is honored and cherished by her children which include: Ron (Cindy) Gillman of Omaha, Nebraska, Lila (Girard) Buenger of Cherokee, Iowa, and Lonnie (Kathi) Gillman of Dallas, Texas, her grandchildren: Justina Woods, Jeremy (Kelly) Buenger, Sarah Gillman, and Josh (Kelsey) Gillman, her great grandchildren: Rayanna, Elizabeth, Madeline, Matthew, and Kaitlyn, one brother: Lyle Schossow of Sun Lakes, Arizona, a sister-in -law: Irene Schossow of Pocahontas, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Robert, several brothers and sisters, and a special friend: Byron Hotchkiss.
