Bonnie E. Grodahl, age 89, of Rembrandt, Iowa, died on Friday, December 8, 2017, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake after suffering a stroke at home.

Memorial services will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. Burial will be in the Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Cemetery in rural Rembrandt. Visitation will take place Thursday, December 14, 2017, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie Elizabeth Kruse, the daughter of Herman and Daisy (Patten) Kruse, was born near Rossie, Iowa, on January 26, 1928. She began her education in a one room schoolhouse near Rossie, attended Rossie High School for three years, and Peterson High School for her senior year, where she graduated in 1946.  

On June 23, 1948, Bonnie was united in marriage to Eugene Grodahl at her parents’ farm home north of Peterson. To this union, three children were born: Steven, Janet and Karen.  Bonnie loved helping Eugene in the field and working alongside him on the farm.  She was very talented with sewing, cooking, gardening, especially her flower garden, wall papering, painting, and entertaining family and friends in her home. Bonnie loved sharing her life with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished the times they could spend together. 

Bonnie was a faithful and active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt and the Merry Matrons.

Bonnie’s life is honored and cherished by her family which include her children:  Steven Grodahl of Urbandale, Iowa; Janet and Scott Van Pelt of Windsor Heights, Iowa; and Karen Koster of Johnston, Iowa; six grandchildren: Heather (Mike) Moran, Joshua (Lindsay) Huffman, Megan Huffman, Nicholas (Crystal) Koster, Anthony (g/f Beth) Koster and Ashley (Lance) Freml; 12 great grandchildren: Kamryn, Cianna, Liberty, Logan, Kyler, Skyler, Sakura, Sekobi, Howie, Nicholas, Clara and Lily; sisters-in-law: Vonnie Kruse and Jean Kruse; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene; three brothers: Ivan, Ervin (Dutch) and Everett; sisters-in-law: Dorothy (Dort) Kruse, Phyllis Grodahl and Neola (Grodahl) Drum; and brothers-in-law: Wayne Grodahl and Duane Drum.
