Jack S. Anderson, age 90, lifelong resident of Storm Lake, Iowa passed at his home on Sunday, June 28, 2020.
Graveside services will be held Friday June 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Storm Lake cemetery with Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake in charge of the arrangements.
Jack Stanley Anderson, the son of Carl and Gail (Shafer) Anderson was born on August 11, 1929 in Storm Lake.
Jack was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake.
Growing up, Jack attended grade school and high school in Storm Lake where he graduated in 1947. He was employed with Paul Park Construction when in 1951, was called by Uncle Sam and enlisted on April 3, 1951 in the United States Army, to serve his country during the Korean war.
He served Army 1st armored division Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Benning, Georgia, light and heavy weapons school. He was stationed overseas one year in Augsburg, Germany. He was honorably discharged on April 15, 1957.
Upon his return in 1953 he married and was blessed with four children: Debra Sue, Gregory James, April Jean, and Curtis K.
Jack was employed with Storm Lake Paint Store from 1953-1984 at which during that time took over as owner in 1969. He went out of business in 1984 and that same year married Deborah Molgaard August 23, 1984, where he gained a stepdaughter, Lisa Brus.
Jack was active in his community as a member of the Storm Lake Coin Club and the American Legion for which he served for over 60 years, many of which he served as commander. In the early 70’s he began decorating veterans’ gravesites in all three of the Storm Lake cemeteries until the legion took over around 2015.
Jack semi-retired in 1991 and began doing house painting. During his free time Jack enjoyed flower gardening, especially Iris’, traveling and birdwatching. He was an avid photographer and liked to be outdoors and enjoy nature. He also cherished his time spent with family and his cat, Bella.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Deborah “Beamer” Anderson of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Debra (Jim) Miller of Schaller, Iowa; Greg (Annie) Anderson of Boerne, Texas; April Grant of Mapleton, Iowa; Curtis (Mary) Anderson of Panora, Iowa; stepdaughter, Lisa (Brian) Brus of Newell, Iowa; sister, Alice (Bob) Nielson of Westside, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Carl “Andy” and Gail (Shafer) Anderson; sister, Wanda (Harold) Benedict; brother, Robert Anderson; brothers-in-law: Harold Benedict, Robert Nielsen, Dennis Molgaard, Robert Molgaard; and nephew, Jim Benedict.
