Lucille Anna Mohr, the daughter of Hans O. and Louise (Schug) Mohr, was born near Auburn, Iowa, on December 9, 1909. She was baptized in March of 1910 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer, Iowa, and confirmed at that church on April 5, 1925. Lucille received her education at a country school near her home in Ulmer.

On July 25, 1934, Lucille was united in marriage to Leo Morenz at the Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn, Iowa, and this couple was blessed with two sons: LeRoy and Lyle. Following their marriage, Leo and Lucille farmed in the Yetter, Iowa, area until moving to Buena Vista County in 1940. In 1949, they purchased a farm near Storm Lake and continued in the farming vocation. Lucille will be remembered by the many customers she served as their waitress in restaurants in the Storm Lake Community. She worked in that profession well into her 70’s. Leo died on July 10, 2002, and Lucille remained on the family farm until entering the nursing home in Newell on May 5, 2008.

Lucille was a faithful member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She raised chickens on their farm along with having a large garden every year. Lucille also enjoyed dancing to Lawrence Welk and had done some sewing and handwork in her earlier years.
