Funeral services will take place Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City, Iowa. Visitation will take place Monday, May 2, 2011 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements. June Marie (Bergling) Sundblad was born February 13, 1919, the second of four children to Elmer and Anna (Dahlberg) Bergling on a farm north of Marathon. June started school at Lincoln Lee Country School. The family moved to Marathon and June graduated in 1936 from Marathon High School. Following high school graduation, June attended Iowa Lutheran in Des Moines for nurses training. On December 16, 1939, June was united in marriage to George E. Sundblad at her parents’ home in Boone, Iowa. The couple farmed near Sioux Rapids until retiring in 1981 when they moved into Sioux Rapids. In December of 2001, June moved to Riverview Terrace in Spencer, Iowa. She entered St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in April of 2010. June was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. She enjoyed hosting coffee parties, crocheting doilies, and doing needlepoint for family and friends. Time spent with her children and grandchildren was one of the highlights of June’s life. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren cherish the example she set for them in the way she lived out her daily life. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Larry (Mary) Sundblad of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Margene (Larry) Smith of Alcester, South Dakota; grandchildren: Steve (Wanda) Sundblad of Spencer, Iowa; Greg (Wendy) Sundblad of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Lynn (Wade) Withers of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Jeff (Jolene) Smith of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Paul (Jennie) Smith of Orange City, Iowa; Mark Smith of Apple Valley, Minnesota; great grandchildren: Andy, Nicholas, and Justin Sundblad; Sydney and Preston Sundblad; Makenna Withers; Ty and Jacob Smith; Mullin, Annika June, and Amira Smith; two sisters: Eila Smith of Ames, Iowa; Alice (Clayton) Fardahl of Ames, Iowa; sister-in-law, Verdine Bergling of Mesa, Arizona; brother-in-law, Oscar Sundblad of Spencer, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends. June was preceded in death by her husband, George on January 7, 2002; parents, Elmer and Anna Bergling; brother, Herschel; brother-in-law, Herschel Smith. |
June Sundblad, age 92, of Spencer, Iowa and formerly of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died April 29, 2011 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa.
