Elinor Joyce Howard, age 87, of Marathon, Iowa died September 21, 2010 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements. Elinor Joyce Templeman, the daughter of Elmer and Dora (Beving) Templeman, was born in Webb, Iowa on March 8, 1923. She lived her youth and received her education in Webb, graduating from the Webb High School. Joyce was united in marriage on July 14, 1951 to Raymond Howard in Sioux City, Iowa and together this couple was blessed with two sons, James and Bruce. Following their marriage in 1952, Joyce and Ray moved to Rapid City, South Dakota. After Ray passed away in 1962, Joyce returned to the Webb and Marathon areas in 1963. She worked as a home health aide in Buena Vista County and later served as the director of that agency. Since August of 2005, she has resided at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City. She is survived by her son, Bruce of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandson, Justin Howard of Nemaha, Iowa; two great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Clara Howard of Albert City; other extended family and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James; brother, Jim and several sisters.
