Gordon O. Risvold, age 88, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died Friday, October 7, 2011 at his farm near Linn Grove, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa. Visitation will take place Monday, October 10, 2011 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids with the family present the entire time. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
Gordon Odell Risvold, the son of Oscar and Effie (Knudtson) Risvold was born on the family farm in Linn Grove, Iowa, on August 30, 1923. He lived his youth in the Linn Grove community and was a 1941 graduate of the Highview Consolidated High School. Gordon served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict.
Gordon was united in marriage to Delores Lady on October 8, 1950, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with three sons: Paul, Warren, and Wayne. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Gordon and Delores resided on the family farm where they were engaged in farming for 30 years. They moved to Sioux Rapids in 1980. Gordon truly had a lifetime commitment to his farming vocation.
He was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove where he served several times on the Church Council. Gordon was an avid reader and will be remembered as a very well read man. He also enjoyed all types of sports, politics, and listening to talk radio.
Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his family which include his wife of almost 61 years, Delores Risvold of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; three sons: Paul (Jymme) Risvold of Linn Grove, Iowa; Warren (Lori) Risvold of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Wayne (Sandy) Risvold of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandchildren and step grandchildren: Travis, Trista, and Ashley Risvold; Kiah, Holly, and Abrielle Tomatz; extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Stanley.
