Edna Gidley, age 98, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died November 19, 2009 at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa. A Memorial service will be held Monday, November 23, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2009 with the family present during that time at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements. Edna Lillian Schneider, the daughter of John and Katherine (Bahr) Schneider, was born in Dunlap, Iowa on January 3, 1911. She was baptized on April 16, 1911 at the Lutheran Church in Dunlap, Iowa by Pastor Hertel. Edna was confirmed by Pastor David Walker at the Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa on November 12, 1961. Edna was united in marriage to Adlai Gidley on February 17, 1926 and this couple was blessed with seven children: LaVerna, Eugene, Janice, Bonnie, Dorothy, John, and Leta. The family moved to Wyoming where they lived for many years until Edna returned to Sioux Rapids in 1951. Edna worked in various restaurants in Sioux Rapids as a cook and was later employed with Sioux Produce where she candled and packaged eggs. She also worked for a number of years at Don’s Food Market until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Sioux Rapids. Special interest of Edna’s included sewing, crocheting, baking, playing cards and spending times with her family. Those who will always cherish her memory include her children: Janice and Loren Anderson of Riverton, Wyoming; Bonnie Adams of Billings, Montana; Dorothy Rine of Wheatland, Wyoming; John (Jack) and Ramona Gidley of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Betty Gidley of Vernal, Utah; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 18 great -great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other extended family and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 daughters, LaVerna Rhoads and Leta Jordan; 1 son, Eugene Gidley; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 1 brother; 2 sisters; and 4 sons-in-law.
