From birth until the age of 10, his family lived on a farm 1 ¼ mile east of the intersection of highways 3 & 71. At the age of 10, Ervin moved with his family to his mother’s family farm and lived there the rest of his life. Ervin spent his entire life in Lincoln Township. While working this farm, this farmstead received the designation as a “Century Farm.” He was very devoted to his farming vocation and enjoyed working outside. Ervin is remembered by his family and friends as a man with a very generous heart and he was always willing and ready to help anyone who was in need of assistance. He also enjoyed carpentry work and whenever he was working in his shop, his radio was on and he loved listening to polka music from New Ulm, Minnesota. Ervin was a faithful member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ Church where he served as a trustee, was president of the cemetery board, and as treasurer.
