Darwin L. Johnson

 

Darwin L. Johnson age 85 of Albert City, Iowa died on October 13, 2011 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.

Darwin Lawerence Johnson, the son of Arthur W. and Ruth V. (Larson) Johnson, was born in rural Albert City, Iowa on May 8, 1926. Darwin was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in 1941 and received his education at Albert City, graduating from the Albert City High School with the Class of 1944. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II from March 30, 1945 to August 24, 1946.

On October 2, 1948 Darwin was united in marriage to Dolores J. Hansen in Albert City, Iowa. This couple was blessed with four children: Bruce, Lynn, Roger and Susan. In 1970, Darwin added his fourth son, Roland Stuermer, an exchange student from Germany. Darwin farmed near Albert City. He later sold Farm Bureau Insurance and Real Estate until his retirement.

Darwin was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Albert City and participated in all church activities. He was very proud to be a member of the Albert City community and was a member of the Albert City Threshermen’s Board, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion and Pleasant View Nursing Home Board. Darwin was also a member of the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Board in Storm Lake and a strong Republican. Darwin had varied interests that included: fishing, playing cards, gardening and traveling. Family was a very important part of Darwin’s life and he took a special interest in the lives of his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Darwin’s life and memory will always be cherished by his wife, Dolores of Albert City, Iowa; his children: Lynn (Kim) Johnson of Albert City; Roger Johnson of Albert City; Susan (Chris) Keyt of Van Meter and Roland Stuermer of Marburg, Germany; seven grandchildren Becky Johnson of Albert City, Jessica Johnson of Albert City, Bethany (Gregg) Mealiff of Knoxville, TN, Karla Johnson of Waterloo, Alison (Brad) Carlsen of Havelock, Megan Keyt of Van Meter and Abby Keyt of Van Meter; five great-grandchildren, Crystal and Brandon Johnson, Hailey and Taylor Wilson and Ethan Clark; Karen Johnson; Antonia (Sacha), Chiara and Mia Enders; Aron Stuermer; other relatives and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bruce; and his sister Lorraine. Blessed be the memory of Darwin Lawrence Johnson.
