Ardelle Valentine, age 89, of Albert City, Iowa died Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Laurens Cemetery in Laurens, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City with the family present at that time. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Ardelle Tool, the daughter of Claude H. and Grace M. (Post) Tool, was born near Laurens, Iowa, on August 2, 1921. She received her education at the Laurens School.
On September 14, 1939, Ardelle was united in marriage to Richard Valentine. This couple was blessed with six children: Richard J., Joy, Mary, Tena, Joe and Michele. Ardelle lived 65 years in the Albert City community where she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She attended the Albert City Evangelical Free Church. Ardelle volunteered ,up to one month prior to her death, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City. Ardelle especially enjoyed taking day trips with her children. She was gifted in doing various types of handwork and crocheted many beautiful doilies and tablecloths and also made many prayer shawls. Ardelle also had a love for music and singing.
Ardelle’s life is celebrated and lovingly remembered by her children: Richard J. (Karen) Valentine of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Joy and her companion, Mel Butcher, of Laurens, Iowa; Mary (Joe) Fischer of Rolfe, Iowa; Tena (Gene) Richardson of Waterloo, Iowa; Joe (Sarah) Valentine of Lexington, Ohio; and Michele (Michael) Young of Savannah, Georgia; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; two step-great-great grandchildren; other extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and one brother, Orlan R. Tool.
