Helen Lathrom

Helen M. Lathrom, age 67, of Marathon, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Hovenden Memorial Good Samaritan Center at Laurens, Iowa.

Services for Mrs. Lathrom will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery at Renwick, Iowa at 2:00 p.m. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Marathon is in charge of the arrangements.
  
A time of visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon. The family will be present at the church for the entire visitation time.

Helen Marlene Landegent, the daughter of John and Annie (Vander Linden) Landegent, was born at Rock Valley, Iowa on July 24, 1940.  She lived her youth and received her education at Rock Valley.
  
Helen had been a business owner and resided at Hawarden, Iowa, and at Farmer City, Illinois, before making her home at Renwick, Iowa, in 1969.  She had owned and operated Tiny’s Café and Helen’s Club.  For  the past 20 years, Helen has lived in the Marathon vicinity, where she was employed at Ike’s Job Site.  Helen enjoyed being outdoors and loved to go fishing and work in her garden.  One of Helen’s favorite places was the cabin on Big Spirit Lake.
  
Among those who will lovingly remember her and cherish their memories of Helen are her children: Deb and Kevin Nickell of Renwick, Iowa; Robin and Mike Jackson of Hayfork, California; her grandchildren: Jessica and Josh Harklau of Humboldt, Iowa; Shannan and Nick Rieck of Ankeny, Iowa; Travis Nickell of Renwick, Iowa; Melissa Jackson of Hayfork, California; and Ashley Nickell of Goldfield, Iowa; her five brothers and their wives: Hubert and Willy Landegent  and Bill and Alma Landegent, all of Rock Valley, Iowa; Case and Jean Landegent of Inwood, Iowa; John and Audrey Landegent of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Adrian and Nyla Landegent of Rock Valley, Iowa; her sister and her husband, Kay and Jack Van Otterloo of Lakewood, California; her special friend, Gary Finnestad of Laurens, Iowa; other relatives and a host of friends.
  
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert Jon Thompson; and a sister, Johanna Wynia.
