Inez L. Monkemeier, age 89, of Sanborn, Iowa, and formerly of Ashton, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the Prairie View Nursing Home at Sanborn, Iowa.

Services for Mrs. Monkemeier are scheduled Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Ashton Bible Church in Ashton, with Pastors James Brown and Kenneth Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Matlock, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the services.

The family will greet friends on Monday, May 7, 2007 at Walton-Roste Funeral Home in Ashton from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Inez Laura Dilly, the daughter of Walter and Pearl (Adkins) Dilly was born at Sheldon, Iowa, on February 2, 1918. She received her education at the Ashton Public School, graduating in 1936.

Inez was united in marriage to Loyal E. Monkemeier on February 14, 1941, at the Presbyterian Church at Ashton, Iowa, and the Lord blessed this union with two children: James and Joy. Most of Inez and Loyal’s married lifetime was spent west of Ashton, where they were engaged in farming for over 50 years. She loved being a farmer’s wife and assisted Loyal on the farm and also enjoyed raising their children there. Inez was a very loving and devoted wife, mom, and grandma. In February of 1998 they moved to Sanborn, where they have made their home.

Inez was a member of the Ashton Bible Church, where she had taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She shared her gift of hospitality and enjoyed opening her home in hosting family and friends. Inez‘s personal relationship with Christ and faith in the Lord were a living testimony and will be remembered by her family and friends. She also showed exemplary patriotism for the American flag and her country. Inez’s special interests included reading, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, and traveling, which included tours throughout the United States, Europe and the Middle East. She and Loyal also enjoyed many winter months in Texas.

Those who will always cherish her memory include her husband of 66 years: Loyal of Sanborn, Iowa; her children: James and Lillian Monkemeier of Tomball, Texas, and Joy and Brad Smith of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Stephen Monkemeier of Austin, Texas; Dannielle (John) Sansom of Magnolia, Texas; Michelle (Steve) Aucoin of Conroe, Texas; Matthew (Yvonne) Smith of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Michael Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Sean (Jaclyn) Smith of Colfax, Iowa; her great-grandchildren: Jordan, Carissa, and Jacob Sansom; Cheyanne Aucoin; Kinsey, Aly and Jacob McDonald; and Emma Smith; her sister and brother-in-law, Ardis and Andrew (Bud) Boone of Sheldon, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Robert Henrich of San Pedro, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jean Henrich in 1986; and her brother, Glen Dilly in 1973.
