Dean A. Lund
Dean A. Lund, age 88, of Holstein, Iowa, died Sunday, September 16, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Graveside services for Mr. Lund will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.
Dean Angelo Lund, the son of Ole and Kristina (Karlsgodt) Lund, was born at New Castle, Nebraska, on April 16, 1919. Dean lived his youth in the New Castle and Maskel, Nebraska area. He received his 8th grade diploma from the Ponca, Nebraska school. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Maskel.
As a young man, Dean moved to Battle Creek, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Louise Mae Fouts in 1939. The couple was blessed with five children: Richard, Kermit, Geraldean, Robert, and Shirley.
Following their marriage, Dean and Louise were engaged in farming near Battle Creek. Louise died due to childbirth complications following the birth of her youngest child in 1945. Dean then moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, where he operated a service station.
In 1947, Dean married Mary House and they and their family moved to the Early, Sac City, Schaller, and Galva areas in Iowa, where Dean worked on various farms. They moved to Covina, California, where they resided from 1959 until 1972 and Dean once again operated a service station. Dean and Mary returned to northwest Iowa and Dean was engaged in farming with his son, Richard, north of Galva from 1972 until his retirement in 1981. Upon their retirement, Dean and Mary moved into Holstein, Iowa. Mary died in 1992.
Throughout his lifetime, Dean enjoyed golfing, fishing, and coon hunting.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Richard and Elenore Lund of Bellvue, Colorado; Kermit and Pat Conard of Anaheim, California; Geraldean Johnson of Lincoln, Illinois; Robert and Rose Fouts of Eaton, Colorado; and Shirley Loar of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirleen Greenwood of Spokane, Washington; two sisters-in-law: Marion and Ray Hickerson of Hemet, California; and Jan Lund of Orange, California; other relatives and many friends.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives, Louise and Mary; five brothers: Oliver, Hillis, Lamont, Leroy, and Doyle Lund; and his sister, Maxine Livermore.
