Bob was born on March 6, 1923 at Dickens, Iowa to Peter M. and Nellie K. (Holmberg) Hansen. He was baptized on February 2, 1924 at Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on the family farm in rural Dickens, where he attended Lake Center, a nearby country school.

On March 22, 1945, Bob was united in marriage to Wilma Marie Remillard in Spencer. Their union was blessed with three children: Sondra, Julie and Craig.

The family farmed in Buena Vista and Clay counties until 1960, when they moved to Sioux Rapids, at which time Bob was employed by Spencer Construction. He later worked as a licensed plumber for Webster Plumbing and Heating of Spencer and also for Nelson Products in Sioux Rapids. Bob was known for his abilities as a “handyman,” and for his unique sense of humor and wit.

Bob enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching the Atlanta Braves, and the “Hawks.” Above all, Bob loved his family and treasured every moment he spent with them.
