Alice Carolyn Tourgee, the daughter of Carl H. and Florence (Judiesch) Tourgee, was born at Holstein, Iowa, on February 14, 1912. Carolyn lived her youth and received her education at Lake Center, Iowa, graduating from the Lake Center High School in 1930.

She was united in marriage to Lyle Glover at her parents’ home at Lake Center on January 3, 1932. Their union was blessed with four children: Carlyle, Janet, Karen, and Keith. Following their marriage, Lyle and Carolyn were engaged in farming in the Lake Park and Ayrshire, Iowa areas. They later purchased their farm near Webb and farmed there until their retirement in 1976 when they moved into Sioux Rapids. Lyle died in 1984. Carolyn continued to make her home in Sioux Rapids until moving to the Highlands Independent Living in Spencer in 1997. More recently, Carolyn had resided at Riverside Assisted Living in Spencer.

Carolyn was a longtime 4-H leader and was honored as the State Homemaker of the Year in 1962. She was actively involved in community service. Carolyn had been a member of the Webb United Methodist Church, as well as the First United Church of Christ of Sioux Rapids where she had been a member of the church choir. It was through her church involvement that Carolyn dedicated herself to making quilts for many years. Carolyn will be remembered as a very warm and compassionate person who was always willing to help anyone in need.

Those who will always cherish her memory include her children: Carlyle and Elaine Glover of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Janet and Richard Cone of Pierre, South Dakota; Karen and Jim Mileham of Aurora, Colorado; and Keith and Betty Glover of Rake, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lyle.
