Shirley A. Musgjerd

Shirley A. Musgjerd, age 81, of Albert City, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City.  Burial will be at a later date in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Ann Otteman, the daughter of Lou and Pauline (Leitz) Otteman, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on July 9, 1936. She lived her youth in the Albert City community and graduated from Albert City High School in 1955.

Shirley was united in marriage to Darrell Jon Musgjerd on December 15, 1962 at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell and this union was blessed with three children: Vickie, Stacy and Kent. Following their marriage, they lived in Albert City and then Darrell’s employment with the Celotex company as a regional sales manager took the family to various locations in Minnesota and Texas. They later returned to Albert City to make their home. Shirley was a devoted and loving wife and mother who invested her life in making a home for her family. 

She was a faithful member of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. Favorite pastimes of Shirley’s included listening to country music, reading and crocheting. 

Shirley’s life will always be honored and celebrated by her family which include her children: Vickie (Mitch) Johnson of Calera, Alabama; Stacy (Robert) Lopez of Hutto, Texas; and Kent (fiancé, Rose) Musgjerd of Moorhead, Minnesota; grandchildren: Ryan  Hicks, Brandi Hicks, Maddison Marshall, Samantha Lopez, Chelsea Musgjerd, DJ Musgjerd, Oliver Musgjerd, and Patricia Musgjerd; great grandson, Samuel Hicks; two sisters: Mary Lou Hoppe of Jessup, Iowa and Donna Buse of Houston, Texas; along with other extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Darrell on February 20, 1995.
