Justin R. Shideler, age 28, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and formerly of Sioux City and Sioux Rapids, Iowa died Friday, December 9, 2016, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Justin Randall Shideler, the son of Randall and Jill (Edwardson) Shideler, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on March 21, 1988.  He was baptized and confirmed at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. 

Justin grew up in Sioux Rapids with his brother, Jason and sister, Carly. He attended Sioux Central School where he graduated with the Class of 2007.  While in high school, Justin excelled in sports and participated in football, wrestling, and weightlifting. He continued his education at Morningside College in Sioux City and received his bachelor’s degree in business administration.  Justin was also a linebacker for the Morningside football team.

Following college, Justin assumed managerial positions with Wal-Mart and J. C. Penney.  He then began a career in sales with Federated Insurance. Justin recently moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he was employed with Thompson Electric.

Justin was passionate about life and some of his greatest passions encompassed powerlifting, playing the guitar and singing, collecting guns, and being a disc jockey.  He had a special gift with children and enjoyed playing with them. Justin was also a determined young man who tried to be a mechanic, but did not always succeed.  His great love and passion was for his fiancée, Talia, and his beloved daughter, Harper, who was the joy of his life.

Justin’s life will always be cherished, loved, and honored by his family which include his fiancée, Talia Benson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and their daughter, Harper; father, Randall (Jolynn Meier) Shideler of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; mother, Jill (Chris) Hoffman of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; brothers: Jason (Brianna) Shideler of Spencer, Iowa; Rhett Hoffman of Paonia, Colorado; sisters: Carly Shideler of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Kylee and Riley Meier of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Callie Hoffman of Grimes, Iowa; Kyra Hoffman of Ames, Iowa; and Audrey Hoffman of St. Michael, Minnesota; niece, Averie Shideler; nephew, Carter Shideler; grandparents: Gary and Jo Edwardson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Diana (Giles) Norlin of Marathon, Iowa; Bruce (Barb) Hoffman of Storm Lake, Iowa; Jerry (Laraine) Kingston of Sioux City, Iowa; great grandmother, Betty Miller of Spirit Lake, Iowa; uncle: Brad (Tanya) Edwardson of Spencer, Iowa; aunt, Teresa Shideler of Kentucky; future father-in-law, Todd Benson of McCook Lake, South Dakota; future sister-in-law, Hali Benson of McCook Lake, South Dakota; other extended family and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents: Edwin and Alice Edwardson and Bernard and Pauline Mortenson.
