Doloris "Dee" Phillips, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Monday, November 6, 2017 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Doloris (Darrow) Phillips was born April 2, 1932 in Colby, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph and Zelda (Brown) Darrow. Her family resided in Kansas and Nebraska.
In 1937, they moved to Storm Lake, Iowa, where she attended grade school and high school.
On August 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to William Phillips at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. She was confirmed with this faith the same year. To their union, six children were born: Steve, Rick, Deb, Jim, Dale and Dean.
She was an active worker in her church teaching Sunday school, midweek school and held ladies aid offices.
After her children were raised, she continued her education at Western Iowa Tech and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as a surgical nurse at Buena Vista County Hospital for 18 years. After retiring, she and her husband enjoyed traveling.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, William Phillips of Alta, Iowa; children: Steve (Peg) Phillips of Kernersville, North Carolina; Rick (Donna) Phillips of Storm Lake, Iowa; Deb Phillips Erickson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jim (Renee Ehrig) Phillips of Sioux City, Iowa; Dale (Maribeth) Phillips of Storm Lake, Iowa; Dean (Barb) Phillips of Alta, Iowa; grandchildren: Brad (Lori), Keith, Jodi (Steven), Katie, Craig (Jennifer), Willie, Chris (Tasha), Matt (Ana), Andy, Michael (Brandi), Elisha (John), Geo (Nicki), Katie (Matt), Rebecca (Jake), Krystal (Jason), Brandyn (Amanda), Nicholas, Lucas, Keith (Cecelia), Ashley (Dillon), Joe (Jesse), Joshua, J.J., April (Cody), Angela, several great grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Darrow of Albert City, Iowa; brother-in-law, Marvin Miller of Storm Lake, Iowa; sister-in-law, Judy (John) Huber of Ames, Iowa; extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Zelda Darrow; parents-in-law, William H. and Edith Phillips; grandson, Nate Phillips; sister, Betty Miller; and sisters-in-law: Dorothy Darrow and Myrna Vigil.
