Darreld D. Bjorklund, age 80, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Center in Manson, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon, Iowa.  Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 7, 2017, from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of arrangements.

Darreld Dewayne Bjorklund, the son of Wayne and Vera (Martin) Bjorklund was born in Albert City, Iowa on February 17, 1937. He lived his youth in the Albert City community and attended Albert City High.  He continued his education at Western Iowa Tech where he received training as an electrician.

Darreld was united in marriage to Bettie Witham on June 23, 1956, at the Presbyterian Church in Fonda, Iowa, and to this union eight children were born: Dan, Randy, Rhonda, Duane, Kim, James, Mindy, and Tina. Darreld was confirmed at the Mission Covenant Pentecostal Church in Marathon in 1952, and he was baptized there in 1959.  For the first few years of their marriage, Bettie and Darreld lived near Albert City, Iowa.  However, the majority of the married lifetime was spent in Storm Lake, Iowa. Darreld owned and operated a vacuum cleaner and sewing business. In 1998, they came to make their home in Albert City, where they resided since.

Darreld was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon, where he had served as a trustee. Darreld’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life, and he cherished the time he could spend with them and the memories they created. Darreld also enjoyed attending church, fishing, playing cribbage, gardening and sports, especially his Chicago Cubs.

Darreld’s life is honored and celebrated by his family which include his children: Dan (Jane) Bjorklund of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Randy Bjorklund of Albert City, Iowa; Rhonda Ralston of Pocahontas, Iowa; Kim Jarvis of Albert City, Iowa; James (Becky) Bjorklund of Clarion, Iowa; Mindy (Mike) Hackbarth of Eagle Grove, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren,  2 great-great grandchildren (and one on the way);  three brothers: Don Bjorklund of Spencer, Iowa; Terry (Toni) Bjorklund of Marathon, Iowa; and Ted (Connie) Bjorklund of Spencer, Iowa; two sisters: Margie (Jim) Horst of Spencer, Iowa; and Judy Williams of Perry, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bettie on April 29, 2013; daughter, Tina Bjorklund; son, Duane Bjorklund; son-in-law, Richard Jarvis; and his brother, Arly Bjorklund.
