Dale E. Truesdell

Dale E. Truesdell, age 80, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, August 19, 2017, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

Memorial services will be held Friday, August 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Dale Everette, the son of Dale Everette and Edna (Messerschmitt) Cuthbert was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa on June 4, 1937.  In November, 1942 Dale moved with his family to Omaha, Nebraska. He was adopted by Doyle Frank Truesdell on June 19, 1943 and his name was changed to Dale Everette Truesdell. Dale then returned to Sioux Rapids in March, 1948.  The family later relocated to Missouri where Dale attended school and graduated from the Carterville Missouri High School with the Class of 1955. 

Dale moved back to Sioux Rapids and joined the United States Army. He served his country from September 7, 1960 until his honorable on August 16, 1962.  He earned the rank of Sergeant in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a decorated sharp shooter in the rifle division. 

Dale was united in marriage to Pauline (Endsley) Larkin on March 7, 1965, in Sioux Rapids. In December of 1965, Dale purchased the pump sales and service portion of the business owned by Art Middendorf and began the Truesdell Pump Sales and Service.  He operated that business from 1965 until his retirement in 2012.  Dale was very devoted and committed to the customers he was privileged to serve. He also owned and operated the car wash in Sioux Rapids from 1975 until 2010. Dale would host car washes as fundraisers for the school. The past three years, Dale had made his home at the Hawkeye Care Center.

Dale was very active in the community and was a member of the Sioux Rapids Fire Department for 35 years.  During that time, he had served as fire chief for several years.  Dale enjoyed golfing, and was a member of the Little Sioux Golf and Country Club where he had served as its president. In addition to golfing, Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and making annual trips to the Deadwood Casino. 

Dale’s life is honored and cherished by his family which include his children: Tommy Larkin of Tujunga, California; Cynthia (Brian) Baldwin of Mapleton, Iowa; Jimmy Truesdell of Tujunga, California; grandchildren: Shannon (Todd) Goettsch, Christa (Jeremy) Blake, Jessica (Calvin) Bruhn, Kayla (Paul) Brown, Tristan and Tara Truesdell, Ryan Baldwin, Candace (Ryan) Jacobson, and Brett (Jody) Baldwin; great grandchildren: Olivia, Taylor, Trey, Addisyn, and Alaina Goettsch, Rowan, Daxton and Thatcher Blake, Presley, Hudson, and Cooper Bruhn, Eva Brown, Brynn and Lily Jacobson, Max Baldwin, and Wyatt Baldwin, nieces, nephews, other extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline on February 7, 2008; three sisters: Dorothy Brock, Jeanette Benson and Arlene Bright; along with several nieces and nephews.
